A Bus Whenever You Want It - with Green Dragon Connect! PDF Print
Thursday, 28 August 2008 22:24
A photo of the Green Dragon BusGreen Dragon Connect - a new community minibus service for the Taf valley area - will be launched on Tuesday, 2nd September.

The dial-a-ride service will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will provide local journeys and a link into the main bus routes, including the 430 Richard Brothers Bus service from Cardigan to Narberth.

The area covered includes Bwlchygroes to the North, Llanfyrnach, Glandwr, Blaenwaun, Llanglydwen, Login, Henllan, the top of Llanboidy and Llandissilio. Because it is a demand-responsive service, Green Dragon Connect can pick people up from anywhere within the area, not just designated bus stops.

The trial service is designed to help people of all ages get out and about in a rural area where there are few conventional buses. The vehicle is wheelchair and pushchair accessible.

"The only thing people have to do to use the service is to register free of charge with the Preseli Rural Transport Association (PRTA) on their first trip," said Councillor Jamie Adams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Planning.

"Passengers need to phone up to book their journey and the minibus will pick you up virtually from your front door and take you to your chosen destination.

"Fares are kept low, and all-Wales concessionary fares apply.

"In short, this will be a highly flexible service that allows people to get where they want to go."

Marteine Richards, from Richards Brothers, said: "This service is the first of its kind in Pembrokeshire and one of the first in Wales to offer a flexible rural dial-a-ride specifically designed to connect with the main bus service.

"We hope to show that, by working together with the PRTA, we can offer a viable public transport service to people across this rural area, not just those who live along the main road."

Rod Bowen, Chair of the Preseli Rural Transport Association and the County Councillor for Clydau, said:

"We are proud to be supported by Pembrokeshire County Council, Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations (PACTO), the Big Lottery Fund and European Objective One grants.

"It shows that, with support, we can deliver innovative solutions to public transport problem areas.

"People can use Green Dragon Connect for a wide range of journeys from shopping, keeping medical appointments, village hopping, to visit friends, or just going out for the day.

"The uses are endless. I am confident that people living in the catchment area of the new service will quickly see the benefits and I urge them not to wait, but to book now on 0800 783 1584.

"Our Booking Co-ordinators will also be able to answer questions about the service and how it will operate."
