travelling-harpist... A Gypsy woman is on the step of her caravan. A group of young people are sitting around listening to her telling a story...

"There is a story, a tale almost forgotten, about some of the Gypsy characters who bought their music, language and way of life to Wales"

Young Travellers from Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire have had a tremendous opportunity to work with professional film makers discovering the stories, the music and the language of the Gypsy heritage of Wales.

As well as bringing the stories to life through animating their own drawings, they heard stories told by renowned storyteller, Daniel Morden and also got to meet a direct descendent of Abram Wood, one of Wales' most famous Gypsies. Teleri Jarman will talk to the young people about her family's tales.

The project will involve young people who come from a Romany heritage alongside other school pupils and involves children from both Bynea County Primary School in Llanelli and Priory Learning Centre, Monkton Priory Community Primary School, Pembrokeshire. They will be attending the world premiere of their film at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven on 14th October when they will receive a copy of the film.

Cinetig, who are running the project, have previously won awards for their films made with communities - both the First Light Movies Award in London and BAFTA Cymru for the best animation.

The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Film Agency for Wales and Carmarthenshire County Council and has been awarded an Inspire Mark by the organising committee of the 2012 Olympic Games.
