farmer-money-compositePlaid AM Nerys Evans has welcomed news that the Assembly's Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones AM is to invest £4.5M into the agricultural industry to help farmers develop their business.

The Mid and West Wales AM said that the money will be used by Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat promotion Wales (HCC) to run three projects which aim to develop farmers businesses financially, to help farmers make use of the latest technology and to improve their strategic planning.

HCC has received £4.5m for three projects under the Rural Development Plan which is funded by the EU and the One Wales Government.

Nerys Evans said: "This is excellent news for the county and for agriculture as a whole. I'm very pleased that Elin has made this investment and is further evidence of Plaid's commitment to the agricultural industry.

"With the current economic climate creating financial difficulties it is important that farmers' businesses are given financial assistance. I am especially pleased that the One Wales Government (wikipedia) has also recognised that there needs to be a long term solution and has provided investment for technology and strategic planning."

Elin Jones Am also commented: "I am pleased to announce funding for HCC's new projects. This investment will produce major benefits for the agricultural sector and through them, the wider rural community"
