Milford 'MATCH' Charity Celebrates First Birthday PDF Print
Friday, 19 June 2009 11:09
match_1st_birthday008A Milford charity that has helped nearly 500 local families by providing food and clothing is celebrating its first birthday this month.

MATCH (Milford Action to Combat Hardship) was established with the aim of relieving the effects of poverty for individuals and families across the county.

MATCH Project Manager Tracy Olin is amazed at how the scheme has gathered momentum and has been overwhelmed by the amount of support they have received.

"I have been surprised how quickly we have gained credibility through word of mouth," commented Tracy. "We have been hugely supported not only by South Hook LNG and Milford Haven Port Authority, but also local businesses, churches and volunteers."

Having worked on a similar project in Southampton, Tracy was keen to bring the same ethos to Milford Haven, assisting people across the county who are living with the effects of poverty and financial difficulty.

The scheme has established a hugely credible reputation, developing referral links with several local authority agencies and gaining the support of local businesses.

Local Builder Dave Stowell recently donated a vehicle to the project, which will assist in collections and deliveries and carpenter Mark Woodward has dedicated time and materials to fitting out the project's headquarters at Milford Marina.

The next twelve months will see further success, as MATCH continues to work pro-actively, combating the effects of hardship felt by many of the county's families.

"It is amazing how many people we have been able to feed and clothe so far and I have noticed a tremendous difference in how our volunteers have progressed.

"Thank you to everyone who has helped us with our first year. I hope we can continue to develop and help more people in the area," commented Tracy.
