Youth Question Time? PDF Print
Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:51

youth-forum-1Pembrokeshire youngsters took part in their very own Question Time last week when over 60 young people from across the County attended a flagship debate in Narberth on Tuesday.

Aged between 11 and 25, the young people asked a panel of key County decision-makers a range of questions about issues that affect their lives.

Transport, leisure, anti-social behaviour and education were top of their agenda.

"It was a marvelous event and showed that the majority of our young people have a very positive engagement with society," said Councillor Huw George, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, who chaired the debate.

"Young people sometimes see decisions made about issues that directly affect them as removed from their lives and by holding this event we wanted to give them the opportunity to interact with decision-makers," he said.

"We appreciated the sometimes tough questions they asked of us and hopefully this will now become a regular event."

The Question Time session was organised by the Pembrokeshire Youth
- Pembrokeshire County Council's youth service - and supported by County Youth Assembly members as an opportunity for young people to get more involved in decision-making.

Funded by a Welsh Assembly grant, the debate was the highlight of a week of activities organised by Pembrokeshire Youth to mark National Youth Week - 1st to 7th November.

Just like the real Question Time, the event was filmed and will form part of a documentary film made by young people.
