INFLATABLES - WORDS OF WARNING!

- Fun dinghies and rubber rings are just that, ‘FUN'. They are not designed to withstand anything but small ripples and are not advisable for use on our changable seas.
June 15, 2006
The Milford Haven Coastguard have asked us to issue a warning about the use of inflatables around our coasts this summer.
We've had another beautiful week of weather here in Pembrokeshire, but unfortunately there have been too many incidents around Wales involving inflatables and dinghies that the coastguard has had to deal with. One such incident left a man in Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth, fighting for his life.
The problems arise from inflatables being used without regard to safety or weather conditions, and they're putting peoples lives at risk!!
These ‘FUN' dinghies and rubber rings are just that, ‘FUN'. They are not designed to withstand anything but small ripples. They are not stable, have no means of steering, (other than some having plastic oars) and are easily punctured. They are An accident waiting to happen.
If you do use these articles please ensure you:
1. Always check the weather and tide. (A wind blowing off the land onto the beach will take an inflatable out to sea is seconds)
2. Never go out of your depth. Only venture out up to your waist!
3. Always keep the inflatable or dinghy tethered to something secure on the beach.
4. And your best practice is to make sure a responsible person holds onto a line attached to the inflatable.
Please heed these warnings! We don't want you to be the next victim - we want you to enjoy yourself around our beautiful coast.
