Pembrokeshire County Council is looking for more foster carers to look after the 260 children and young people, who need to be looked after by Social Care every year.
In a bid to encourage more people to foster, the Council has increased its package of support for them.
The Council needs carers for children of all ages but it is particularly interested in hearing from people prepared to look after older children and youngsters up to 18.
“Fostering is certainly a very challenging role to play but it can also be very rewarding” said Councillor Sian James, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing.
“Anyone can be considered as a foster carer - whatever their circumstances -- but they will need a spare room, energy and an empathy with children, many of whom have had more than their fair share of problems to deal with,” she said.
The Council's new package for foster parents includes increased allowances (comparable with private agencies) along with practical, locally based support. All children placed by the Council will be local children.
Carers can be full or part-time with foster care built around people's existing family and other commitments.
If you are interested in fostering phone: 01646 683747 or email fostering@pembrokeshire.gov.uk or visit the Pembrokeshire County Council website.
