Childcare and nursery facilities in North Pembrokeshire have received a huge boost, thanks to a brand new centre in Crymych – the first of its kind in Pembrokeshire.
Canolfan Plant y Frenni (Children’s Centre) is based next to Ysgol y Frenni and offers several new services, including a day nursery, an early years unit for 3-year-olds, and an after-school club.
The local Cylch Meithrin and toy library have also moved to the site, as well as a new family centre which will open later in the summer.
An open day was held on Saturday (15th July) where children enjoyed the bouncy castle, face painting and entertainment, and parents had the chance to see what services were available and meet the staff.
Jill Lewis, Centre Manager, said they were delighted with the response and commented, “We had many visitors, not just from Crymych but all over North Pembrokeshire.
“There was a great deal of interest shown in all the services and we are hoping they will make a significant difference to local people. We are looking forward to meeting many more families in the area and welcoming them to the centre,” she added.
Canolfan Plant y Frenni has been established, and is run by, Pembrokeshire County Council.
The facilities include:
‘Dyddiau Difyr’ (Happy Days) Day Nursery
The nursery will care for children from birth to five years, with parents having the option of half or full-day care, with no minimum attendance. Open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm
Cylch Meithrin
A playgroup run by Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin, for children from two years to school age. Open Monday to Friday, 9am to 11.30am.
Ysgol y Frenni Early Years Education
A nursery class for three-year-old children in Ysgol y Frenni. Open Monday to Friday, 1pm to 3pm.
After School Club
A wide range of activities and a snack in a friendly, safe environment, for children aged four to 11. Open Monday to Friday, 3pm to 5.30pm.

Toy Library
A wide selection of good quality, fun and educational toys to hire. Safety equipment such as stair gates and fireguards can also be hired.
“This centre is the first such facility in Pembrokeshire, and I am sure it will be of tremendous benefit to local parents and children. I wish it every success,” said Councillor Islwyn Howells, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and the Welsh Language.
