Pembrokeshire’s Steps2Health walking project has made great strides in its first year.
Nine walking groups have so far been established in the county, offering 12 or more community walks per week. In its first year the project provided over 220 led walks with 2,300 individuals taking part.
Steps2Health, led and managed by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, is the Pembrokeshire project launched as part of the Walking the Way to Health (WW2H)in Wales initiative.
Paul Morris, the project co-ordinator, said: “The past year has been great fun for all concerned. Walkers and walk leaders seem to really enjoy getting together for a walk, followed by a cup of tea and a nice chat. I think almost every walker has discovered somewhere new to walk quite close to home.”
Across Wales over 100,000 people have joined WW2H which offers low cost, safe, doorstep opportunities for people to increase their physical activity.
“Taking physical activity outdoors in company also makes people feel better about themselves and life in general,” added Paul. “In Pembrokeshire we have the advantage of having so many nice places to walk.”
The walks go on all year round and Paul is always eager to hear from new walkers and volunteer leaders. To find out more visit their website here or telephone Paul Morris on: 01646 624910.
