A win on the Wales Air Ambulance Charity Draw means a Pembrokeshire man can carry out the renovation work needed to enable his ailing wife to take a shower.

Mr. Eric Robinson of Kingsbridge Drive in Pembroke was delighted to receive a phone call from Swansea Sound Presenter Kevin Johns who broke the news that he had won the top prize of £5000 in the Wales Air Ambulance bi annual Charity draw.

Mr Robinson hails from Lincoln but moved back to Wales with his wife Brenda, a local girl, and they have been keen supporters of Wales Air Ambulance since its inception.

Mr. Robinson said, "I have been trying to organise a level access shower for my wife and we are delighted that we will now be able to complete this on going project because the winning amount is almost exactly what we require, and it will make life so much easier. If there is any left over, I'm sure my four sons will relieve me of any surplus!"

Mr Robinson is a Normandy Veteran and took part in the invasion of France in 1944. He was an Infantryman in the Lincolnshire regiment and has just been re-elected as Treasurer of the Pembrokeshire Normandy Veterans Association.

Kevin Johns is an avid supporter of Wales Air Ambulance and selected the winning ticket at the Swansea Fundraising Office. It co-incided with the Charity's sixth birthday. The second prize of £1000 was won by Eira Bevan from Llanwrda in Carmarthenshire.

Wales Air Ambulance now has three helicopters across Wales based at Swansea, Caernarfon and Welshpool. They can reach any incident within 15 minutes and transport the patient to the most appropriate hospital for their injuries much more quickly than a land ambulance.

The service costs £2.5 million to operate and the Charity Draw plays a major part in the fund raising process.
