The new mayor of Pembroke for 2007 is Councillor Keith McNiffe.
Keith spent the early part of his life in Pembroke Dock where he attended Albion Square and Coronation schools before qualifying as a chef at Pembrokeshire College.
Keith joined the army as a chef and after leaving the army he worked in London becoming involved with the St. John Ambulance. During his fifteen years with the charity, Keith has helped to provided first aid cover at many public and sporting events. He was on duty near St Paul's Cathedral on July 29th 1981 during the wedding of Prince Charles and the late Lady Diana Spencer, which he considers the highlight of his service.
On his return to Pembrokeshire, Keith met and later married his wife Michelle while working at Castlemartin Camp and made his home in Monkton. They have two sons Stuart (18) and Daniel (16) who like their father, are both qualified football referees, and all three officiate at Pembrokeshire League matches.
Over the years Keith has taken on a number of roles in the community including being a founder member of Monkton Communities First, member of Pembrokeshire Referees Society, Age Concern representative and governor of Pembroke Golden Grove School.
He was elected as Pembroke Town Councillor for Monkton ward in 2004 and is looking forward to his year as the 628th Mayor of the historic town.
During his year in office, together with the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Gareth Jones, he hopes to work closely with the young people who he sees as the future of the town.
