... plans for the creation of a new Pembrokeshire Federation ..
March 03, 2008
Representatives from 19 local history societies and groups in Pembrokeshire got together for an Open Meeting on Wednesday 6th February at Haverfordwest Library. The meeting had been arranged to discuss plans for the creation of a new Pembrokeshire Federation of Local History Societies.
The Federation aims to improve communication between each of the different societies, so that expertise and resources can be shared. Also, the intention is to make societies more aware of the services, advice and resources that are available to them from Pembrokeshire County Council’s Information and Cultural Services Department (libraries, museums and archives).
Topics discussed during the first meeting included: ways of reaching younger audiences, digitising local history resources and funding opportunities.
Local History Societies are now being invited to suggest speakers for future meetings, contribute items to the newsletter and submit lists of their areas of expertise/knowledge for inclusion in a Pembrokeshire Directory of Specialisms.
BOLDFACEMeetings are to be held quarterly, with the next one due in May.
All local history societies are welcome to take part please e-mail: George.Edwards@pembrokeshire.gov.uk for further details.
