Pembrokeshire Aviation Group Take Flight
April 23, 2008
Pembrokeshire Aviation Group members took to the air at their April meeting - without their feet leaving the ground.
They visited the Swansea University School of Engineering where they enjoyed a guided tour of the aeronautical section and were shown the workshops, wind testing tunnel and engine technology room.
A highlight was the opportunity to ‘fly’ the recently installed full motion flight simulator. Members took the controls of various aircraft in the simulator and types flown ranged from Airbus airliners, Harrier jet fighters, Jetstream transports and experimental aircraft. These experimental aircraft were designed within the simulator’s computers by students at the university.
Everyone was very impressed by the flight simulator and their flights, even if all did not go to plan and some ended in disaster!
Next group meeting will be on Tuesday May 13th with a visit to the West Wales Maritime Heritage Society yard and workshop, Front Street, Pembroke Dock.
Meet at Western Way car park at the propeller memorial (near the Asda petrol station) at 7 pm.
Guests are most welcome to attend.
For further information on the group’s activates contact Shaun Bowman-Davies on 01646 601861.
