Lennie the Leek has been called up to help children tuck into their school meals.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s school meals mascot was on hand at St Teilo’s Catholic School last week urging children to eat healthily at lunchtime.

His presence was part of a new initiative by the Council’s catering department to boost the take-up of healthy school dinners.

Children eating school meals received Lennie water bottles and were also given stickers and certificates.

As well as Lennie, Sarah D’Ivry and Sara Rhys-Owens from the Council were on hand to talk to parents, pupils and lunchtime supervisors about the benefits of healthy eating.

And, as an added incentive, pupils signing up for a week of school dinners were given five meals for the price of four!

During the initiative, the percentage of youngsters having school meals at the Tenby primary school doubled!

After Easter, Lennie takes his healthy eating message to Golden Grove Community School/Ysgol Gelli Aur in Pembroke.
