Trust Wins Top Accolades In All-Wales Mental Health & Learning Disability Awards

The Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing Awards for Wales, now in its third year, attracted more than 50 nominations in nine categories.
 

Pembrokeshire & Derwen NHS Trust has won two top awards and three commendations in the annual Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing Awards for Wales.

Health Minister Edwina Hart praised the nurses for their hard work and dedication at a special award ceremony held at the All Nations Centre in Cardiff.

She said: “Often the work of mental health nurses and learning disability nurses gets overlooked, but they have an important role to play in the health service. These awards recognise the significant contribution that these nurses are making to modernise these services.

“They aim to encourage the development of innovative, nurse-led initiatives within NHS services. I would like to congratulate all the nominees and winners at today’s awards. These awards confirm that mental health and learning disability nursing in Wales is something that we should value and be very proud of.”

The annual event, now in its third year, attracted more than 50 nominations in nine categories.

The Pembrokeshire & Derwen NHS Trust award winners are:

  • Sarah Dudley, who won the Best Learning Disability Residential/In-Patient Nurse award for her pivotal role on Ty Bryn and with the team in the development of a confident, competent and skilful clinical team which provides high quality care to a vulnerable and complex group of individuals

  • Anne Phillips, a CPN in CTLD in Carmarthen, who won the Best Learning Disability Community Nurse award for being the leading and driving force in the development and maintenance of high quality services for people with learning disabilities and epilepsy in Carmarthen

The three Trust commendations were as follows:-

  • Afallon Ward were commended in the Best Contribution to In-patient Care (Mental Health) category for their work around healthy lifestyles on the ward and with community resources

  • Karl Rees from Cwm Seren ward was commended in the Best Health Care Assistant (Mental Health) category for the activities that he facilitates for service users on the ward

  • Judith Radbourne was commended in the Best Mental Health Nurse (Older Persons' Care) category for her contribution to the young adult early onset dementia work with the team in Pembrokeshire
