Pembroke Dock’s makeover is continuing.

Following completion of phase one of its Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), phase two will be launched later this month.

The launch will take the form of an open day at the THI office in Sunderland House in the Royal Dockyard on Friday 28th March.

The office will be open from 2pm to 7pm to enable members of the public and property owners to find out more about the scheme, as well as provide help with filling in grant aid forms.

A launch newsletter will also be widely distributed throughout the town.

Chairman of the Pembroke Dock THI steering group, County Councillor Brian Hall, praised the recent transformation of parts of the town.

“I am delighted so much has been achieved and also pleased that the work is to continue on restoring more of our wonderful historic buildings,” he said.

The Pembroke Dock THI aims to restore and renovate the historic buildings of the waterside town such as the Garrison Chapel and Market hall in the former Royal Naval Dockyard.

The £2m Heritage Lottery Fund award given to the project in 2000 was the largest ever made in the UK under the scheme with support funding also offered from the Welsh Assembly Government, Cadw and Pembrokeshire County Council.
.
Following completion of the five-year programme a second HLF bid secured an extra £945, 000 last year.

Buildings now eligible for aid include further buildings in the dockyard as well as several in the town centre.
