Milford Haven Coastguard Weekly Report - April 24th 2008
April 24, 2008
A ‘999’ call to the Operations Room at Milford Haven Coastguard at 8.50pm 14th April stating a man had fallen into the Haven at Wards Pier, Milford Haven and was now being kept afloat by hanging on to a fishing line, started an emergency rescue response from Angle RNLI Inshore Lifeboat, Dale Coastguard Rescue Team, 2 Port Authority Pilot boats, the Police and Ambulance Service.
A thorough search was conducted of the water and anglers around Wards Yard were questioned.
It became apparent that something was amiss and the Police began making enquiries in the housing areas around Black Bridge.
From their investigations it appeared that the call had been a hoax and no one was in danger. A local man is helping Police with their enquiries.
This incident took away vital emergency services for approx 2 hours, during which time people in real danger could have been jeopardised with tragic circumstances.
Any person making calls of a malicious nature WILL be traced and in all probability PROSECUTED.
The Coastguards WILL NOT tolerate calls of this nature that detract from genuine call for help!!
